Wow of the week - 22.10 - Racism in football

Dear all

This week the WOW of the week questions the problem of Racism in Football.

It might be worth starting with a discussion about what Racism and Discrimination means. Have any students seen it in sport?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/19974394 - news report on the racial incident in England's under 21 game last week.
Discuss - is Football a more racist sport than others? How do we know? Why might we think it is?
What is being done to stop racism in football?

http://www.kickitout.org/ - the official website to get rid of racism in football.
Explore the web page and the various campaigns.

and
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20001544- Rio Ferdinand's decision not to wear a 'kick it out' T shirt.
Discuss - Was Rio F right to decide not to wear the T-shirt? Should he be disciplined or is he making a valid point?

Does it shock you that in today's world racist attacks and events like occur in big sporting events televised around the world?

Year 11 Realtime Boards

Realtime Board is a new online tool for hosting online, collaborative brainstorming sessions. Realtime Board provides a blank grid on which you can type, draw, and post pictures. You can connect elements on your boards through a simple linking tool. The boards that you create on Realtime Board can be shared publicly or privately. To help you communicate with your collaborators Realtime Board has a chat function built into every board.

Please create a Realtime Board as an electronic version of your Moodboard.  Log on via the google login and use your school email account.  If you login to school email first it will be easier for you.

  • Ask your test buddy and me for feedback and make changes if necessary.
  • Update your game overview document to record the feedback on your moodboard.
  • Finalise your moodboard.
  • Save evidence of your moodboard in your DEVELOPMENT folder.
